Donations
Why should I donate money to RISC OS Open?
Maintenance of the shared source RISC OS project is done on a largely voluntary basis. We need to keep the running costs as low as possible. A part of the way we’re doing this is to ask the people who use RISC OS to make a donation towards our running costs.
For example, we primarily spend your donations on attending various RISC OS (and related) computer shows around the country – or even abroad – in order to show people first hand what is new in the RISC OS world. Shows aren’t cheap: transport, accommodation, stand space, networking, merchandising and other costs all make up a significant proportion of our annual spend.
As another example, the entire source tree can be downloaded from our site as a single .tar.bz2 archive. This might be around 50MB in size. Every person who does this is using a chunk of bandwidth (much more than a normal web site would provide to people just looking at its pages). We have to pay our service provider based upon how much traffic our site gets, so we ask users to consider donating towards the costs if they feel that their use of the site is contributing towards them.
It’s not a demand – you don’t have to contribute! Likewise, if you want to help open source RISC OS to continue, you can contribute to the cause even if you don’t personally want to download large lumps of source code. It all helps! :)
Just pop over to our donations page using the button in the sidebar and make whatever contribution you see fit. All donations will go towards the running of the open source RISC OS project.
Thank you!
- The RISC OS Open team.
