Steve has just uploaded a new build of the Beagle ROM.

I can also report that it works. It boots into the desktop… hurrah! And the ShareFS icon was there, and clicking on it opened up the window with three shares in it, and clicking on one of them opened its directory!

All good so far.

I’ll have to alter the “How to get started” wiki page.

Thanks again to Steve Revill, who, when I asked when a new Beagle ROM would be built, responded by building one.

...It boots into the desktop… hurrah!

...it’s still much more convenient for me to be left at the command line than in the desktop
...Didn’t RISC OS previously check for numpad-* for booting to the Supervisor prompt? Is there scope for this (or something similar) to be considered for inclusion at some point in the future?
Yes, there’s definitely scope for getting it working...

Great for us users but what about those working on the ROM code itself?

Thanks very much for the build, all the same :-)

Ahhh… this’ll be the key sentence which I missed and didn’t try until just now!
...And if you don’t have anything connected, it’ll just leave you at the supervisor prompt, just like before...

Thanks all round!

Trevor, how do you get multi-level quoting to work? I can’t, despite all my trial and error.

When I can’t do what I want in Textile I resort to HTML. Put == around your text and then you can use nested <blockquote> etc. Yes, it’s a little OTT just for a forum but there you go.

[Edit: Actually, you don’t seem to need the ==.]

Got it – thanks! (Sorry to be OT, I couldn’t think of where else to go to find out.)

I couldn’t think of where else to go to find out.

Further to the Wish lists → Textile tutorial thread it’d perhaps be best if there was a summary in the ROOL wiki itself, especially if the external link(s) become redundant. I’ve given this some thought in the past but haven’t actually tackled it yet – I’ll try to have a proper look some time.

Loaded the new ROM today and as Dave has said auto boots to desktop with a USB stick. Not so with a hard disc. However typing Desktop at the * prompt does bring RO up but with an error message about not booting properly. Clicking on cancel does bring up the root of HardDisc4, thus allowing you to complete the normal boot sequence.

No chance that someone could do a ROM that copes with hard discs as well? :-)

I’ve uploaded a rom here that boots from HardDisc4.
