Foreword
RISC OS developers continually update and release new versions of their headline software, and so may release new/later versions with additional features as chargeable products. The links provided on this page lead to suppliers’ web sites which may cover the most recent versions. Please be aware that these feature sets may be more extensive than the versions supplied as part of NutPi, although the commercial prices will no doubt reflect that!
SparkFS (David Pilling)
SparkFS is a powerful compressed filing system that saves disc space and allows you to use compressed files and programs as easily as uncompressed ones. Files can be stored individually more safely than in easy-to-damage archives and there are no confusing duplicate disc drive icons to master.
CloudFS (Elesar)
CloudFS makes your files available anywhere and on any device. For example, take a photo on your phone and once uploaded it appears in the network
shared drive using the familiar OmniClient front end. Initially pCloud is the supported cloud storage provider, you will need to create an account
there which includes up to 10GB of free storage
PhotoDesk (Fourth Dimension)
PhotoDesk is the leading bitmap editing package for computers running RISC OS, it has been favourably compared with industry standard graphic tools. True studio quality is available with enhanced quality tools and effects with extensive calibration, accuracy and previewing giving much improved productivity for the professional user.
WimpWorks (Jaffa Software)
WimpWorks allows anyone with a simple knowledge of BBC BASIC to produce stunning multitasking applications which work with others on the Desktop, from simple clocks up to complete databases! By using the BBC BASIC included within RISC OS, fast applications with full access to hardware can be produced easily. This integrated development environment eliminates the boilerplate and frustration in writing RISC OS applications.
luafox (luafox)
luafox is an innovative software solution for efficient data analysis and presentation under RISC O S. The graphical user interface makes it easy to learn and use the program and allows performing complex analysis even without scripting knowledge.
luafox is based on the well-established programming language Lua and has been optimized for ambitious scientific tasks. Lua is used internally as scripting language of the program.
Iconizer (MathMagical)
MathMagical’s unique software for locating & presenting ‘strange attractors’. Iconizer II is software to complement the book “Symmetry In Chaos” (2nd edition, published August 2009) Here are a few images from Iconizer.
Gutenprint (MW Software)
Gutenprint for RISC OS is a RISC OS printing solution based on the latest stable release of the Gutenprint library (version 5.2.5). It integrates into !Printers, offers support for more than 1450 printers and can be used like any other printer driver to print from RISC OS applications (e.g., Draw, ArtWorks, OvationPro, Impression).
Writer+ (MW Software)
Writer+ is a cut-down version of the popular EasiWriter word processing package for RISC OS. It provides import of MS Word documents, as well as the basic word processing features. For more advanced documents, you should consider looking at EasiWriter or TechWriter.
Organizer (Organizer)
Organizer is a personal information manager for the RISC OS operating system, which runs on all versions of the operating system (RISC OS 3.5 and above), on native ARM-based systems or under emulation. It contains all the main features of an Organiser – Calendar, Diary, Anniversaries, Address book, ToDo section, plus Notes and Journal facilities – within a simple, user-friendly graphical interface.
CloneDisc (Piccolo Systems)
CloneDisc is a utility which lets you:
- make one disc an exact copy of another
- create a disc image file containing the contents of a disc
- initialise a disc using a disc image file
- securely erase the contents of a disc
Types of discs supported include ADFS, SCSIFS (USB drives) and SDFS (memory cards).
DataPower (RComp)
DataPower is a user friendly DTP style multimedia database. It has been extensively tested in both the classroom and in regular office use. DataPower has been carefully designed to be easy to use whilst still incorporating all the powerful features you would expect from a top database. This ensures that as an experienced or inexperienced user, you can be quickly up and running with full control over your data.
Grapevine2 (RComp)
Grapevine’s just another IRC/MSN client, right? Nope. Grapevine is designed to allow you to have a single program for all your instant communication, and has been designed to be expandable for more protocols and additional functionality.
Messenger Pi (RComp)
Messenger Pro is one of the most powerful email/news solutions for RISC OS machines. It is designed to happily cope with large quantities of email and news, and the special demands of the office and classroom. Quite simply, Messenger Pro is the solution for RISC OS-based email and news. Please note: Messenger Pi is based on version 5 of the full retail edition of Messenger Pro, which has itself seen new releases in the meantime – please be aware that the NutPi edition will differ from the version described on that website.
NetFetch (RComp)
NetFetch is designed for use with broadband (e.g. ADSL or Cable) and other network-based internet connections. Its purpose is to provide an easy-to-use interface to the internet, whilst giving plenty of flexibility to users so that things work just the way you want. The software makes day-to-day tasks easy for RISC OS internet users, whilst including a wealth of powerful “back end” software to ensure the latest technologies and protocols are supported.
MusicCD (RComp)
MusicCD, as the name implies, is a program for playing music CDs on your RISC OS computer. Unlike many/most other CD players for RISC OS, it can do this digitally, as required by modern SATA/USB CD and DVD drives. MusicCD can also download track listings from the internet.
NetworkPrinting (RComp)
The Network Printer Drivers provide printing connectivity for RISC OS machines, supporting both lpr and HP JetDirect print protocols.
SafeStore (RComp)
SafeStore is a thoroughly modern backup program, designed for those of us who never seem to get round to backing up. You can set SafeStore up, and it will then automatically backup your data without getting in your way – it can work whilst your computer is idle, and backup as frequently (or infrequently!) as you wish. The Raspberry Pi version of SafeStore implements SSL1 (and not SSL2).
SiteMaster 2 (RComp)
SiteMaster 2 provides the management and maintenance tools for your web sites. It allows you
rename files without breaking links, add file extensions to files and alter the case of filenames.
TouchType (RComp)
Touch Type has been designed to be both fun and easy to use, but also challenging to encourage you to use it again and again. It is designed to optimise your practice time by giving you individual attention and accurate assessment, to ensure that you learn to touch type as quickly as possible.
Desktop Development Environment (RISC OS Open)
The DDE provides a set of RISC OS desktop applications for programming. These tools interact in ways designed to help your productivity and make the desktop a high quality environment for creating RISC OS applications and relocatable modules from compiled languages or assembler.
Impact (Sine Nomine)
Impact is a user-friendly relational database system for RISC OS. Its particular strengths are table, printing, label printing, mail merge to desktop publishing packages like Ovation Pro, and bulk generation of e-mails. Impact’s users have created databases to manage society membership lists, personal music collections, recipes, route-planning, a dental practice, and all sorts of other purposes. Included with the software are three helper applications which may also be used independently: DrawPrint for printing Draw files over several pages, LabPrint for printing labels from CSV files, and ImpEmail for generating bulk (or individual) e-mails.
