Crazy week: day 1

www.riscos.fr is one of the few RISC OS websites dedicated to French-speaking users. It now includes news (with links) on the evolution of the OS and its software. This is the only website in French offering news about our favorite platform. Wink: the news starts on 22/10/2018, the date of the announcement of the switch of RISC OS under an Open Source license. 40 news items are already online.

Crazy week : jour 1

With non-French access too https://www.riscos.fr/english.html, https://www.riscos.fr/espanol.html, https://www.riscos.fr/deutsch.html

Mind you the RPCEmu version packaged up is 2 years old1, and the French opening page is prettier than the others.

1 v0.9.x doesn’t install into Program Files so unzipping into an unrestricted directory or a removable media device works fine and might appeal to new users more.

Ça, c’est très joli!

Mais y aura-t-il une version Mac?

Je n’ai pas de Mac :)

Et je n’ai pas de PC 8~)

A French user confirmed me that the binary for Linux, dropped in the directory, just works.
Perhaps it’s the same under OS X…

I might even give that a shot – if I’m feeling brave enough! But I’ve got a Pi right next to the Mac, all hooked up to the same monitor & running all the time anyway. As you might remember – you gave it to me!

For a strange reason, I write this on a PC. A RDP session from RISC OS :)

And I generally write on here from a Mac 8~) – mostly use the Pi for !Draw, !Zap and BBC BASIC. Mac for most things.

What’s the deadline for the game contest?

Avatar Rick Murray (539) 10541 posts

There are ten Pi’s1 up for grabs. The deadline is probably “when they’re all gone”.

1 Annoying misplaced possessive apostrophe to avoid writing “Pis”…

Crazy week: day 4

For almost two years we have been offering free licenses of BASIC DDE. An offer including the ABC Basic compiler, reference manuals and programming tools. Many users now own this free solution.

We still have many licenses. Enough to announce that this offer is now unlimited.
ABC is free for all and forever.

Note that the screenshots provided by users are here:
https://riscos.fr/basicdde/index.html

In addition to this first announcement, we will strengthen our BBC Basic presence through a new dedicated website: www.bbcbasic.fr. But also strengthen the presence of BBC Basic under RISC OS with a private bounty aimed at adapting Richard Russell’s BBC Basic under RISC OS.

More details here:
https://www.riscosopen.org/forum/forums/1/topics/13489

Crazy week : jour 4

We now offer new emulators for Windows based on the latest versions of RISC OS and RPCEmu.

Nota: new versions are available. They solve some stability issues with the “Reduce CPU Usage” option (does not work well).

Crazy week: day 6

For more than 4 years, RISC OS FR has been an active supporter of the operating system developed by ROOL. The least we can do is to support them with some financial participation. It’s done today, with our contribution of £500 towards the “Further clipboard support” bounty present on the RISC OS Open website.

Crazy week: day 7

2019 is an opportunity for New Year’s resolutions. And future projects around RISC OS.

We know that some key projects must be separated from the RISC OS FR website in order to federate a larger part of the ecosystem. So we decided to reserve and host 4 domain names, which will form as many future projects:

riscos.pro, riscos.fun, riscos.tv and riscos.xyz

Excellent year to all!

For others looking at this on RISC OS using NetSurf (like me), the unicode character number 1F44D as inserted by Clive is an emoji Thumbs Up symbol.

Though it comes through as F44D in RISC OS which is private use area in Unicode and has no meaning, so just displays the unicode number.

I had to look it up.
