I recently set up RPCEmu 0.9.3 on a GNU/Linux host system (Ubuntu 20.04) as DDE build environment (using the Easy-Start bundle for ROD) it seems to work well except for three things.

  1. Middle clicking requires repeated attempts (double or triple clicking)
  2. AltGr is not recognised as right-Alt
  3. Whenever I use the shift key, it sticks until I shift focus to the host system and go back again. (It’s not Caps Lock, but actually shift, since ’ turns into @ etc.)

In particular the third is strange. Has any one experienced anything similar?

EDIT: On advice from the !ChatCube RISCOS Support channel I’ve tried with “Reduce CPU Usage” enabled and disabled, with no discernable difference.

EDIT 2: I’ve now tried in both the RO371 and RO5D Easy-Start bundles, with both the interpreter and recompiler version of RPCEmu, with the same result.

Have a look at the QT source for RPCEmu, most of the keyboard quirks will arise from the code there.

Middle mouse button issues I’ve seen here – I thought it was the abused middle button.
Try the emulator in two button mouse mode and see if you get the same effect from the right hand button that is now Menu (you lose the adjust-click feature while you do this)

Thanks, I’ll have a look! I doubt I’ll find a quick fix, but who knows?

That did indeed resolve the click issue. It’s a shame to lose the adjust button, but it might be more sustainable.

Managed to add AltGr without any problems, so that’s two problems (more or less) dealt with. No idea what to do about the major concern, unfortunately.

Might be an Ubuntu thing, as this combo has been working OK on Debian Buster
