RPCEmu

Hi All, I am trying to follow this guide: https://www.riscosopen.org/wiki/documentation/show/RPCEmu%20and%20RISC%20OS%205%20on%20Mac%20OS%20X However note, the RPCEmu version I downloaded is the latest MacOS M1 version available, 0.9.4a. At this part: Download an IOMD ROM image from the downloads page. The recommended ROM is labelled IOMD 5.28 stable (softload). — When I extract the contents of the zip folder, I do not see a riscos file within Predesk folder, it just a !run file? And this part: Copy this file to Documents/RPCEmu/hostfs as “HardDisc4-util,ffc” – take care to keep the ,ffc (comma ffc) ending which will be translated by RPCEmu to produce the metadata filetype for RISC OS. — I take it a simple copy and paste, the above file to the hostfs folder is sufficient, how do I know it copied the ,ffc correctly? Any further clarification on the above points would be greatly appreciated. |

Apologies: the path given was incorrect. It should not have mentioned soft/!Boot/Choices: the correct path to the file is:
Again, the instructions weren’t clear. It should have stated “take care to add the ,ffc ending” (instead of “take care to keep…”). One other thing: If you’re going to be running this on an “Apple Silicon” Mac (M1 M2, M3 or M4 processor), you may find that RPCEmu-Recompiler runs very slowly. You will get better performance from RPCEmu-Interpreter on Apple Silicon. |

@stuart painting, Many thanks for the clarification. That was very helpful and it worked. Just to ask another question if I may. As I do not have access rights to edit this thread title. Could an admin of this site changed the thread title to this. “Mac M1 RPCEmu 0.9.4a unable to locate riscos file?” I see my original thread title was a bit non-descriptive of the problem. I also see RPCemu 0.9.5 is just being released. From the github notification here > https://github.com/Septercius/rpcemu-dev/releases Does that mean we no longer going to see continued development of RPCEmu on Mac silicon systems anymore and if yes, why is that the case? Again many thanks for your help. |

I am not a developer so I cannot give a definitive answer. However I do know that the existing Recompiler code is suitable only for Intel CPUs, and rewriting that to use ARM code for M1 CPUs is a significant chunk of work: certainly far more than was previously the case for anyone attempting a Mac port of RPCEmu. |

I think you mean https://www.riscosopen.org/forum/forums/10/topics/17579#posts-136539 Otherwise, browsers might complain about the certificate only being valid for the riscosopen.org domain |

True! In any case I’m sure that someone will spin a DMG of 0.9.5 interpreter for our Mac friends. |
