Can’t send emails from Dubai

Something odd is going on: I’m running Messenger Pro on RPCEmu 0.9.4/5.30 on my wintel laptop, here in Dubai at a wifi connected address (my son!). NAT is operating. I can receive emails from my BT mail server, but I cannot send them: the email forwarder hangs indefinitely. Webmail on the laptop works normally, both sending and receiving. Has anyone experienced similar behaviour? |

If it’s a real BT one (as opposed to an outsourced cloud service), then it’s likely that (as with most ISPs relays) it will only accept connections from within the ISP’s own infrastructure. So you can use it when connected to your BT broadband service, but not from another provider’s network. It’s a convenient way to minimise their exposure to the risk of being a relay for spam. |

You should be able to post from other locations on condition that you are using secure SMTP. |

Following Dave’s suggestion, I opened !NetFetch’s settings, configured Account-Advanced-Security to SSL and tried again – no luck. I then remembered I’d changed my BT account password a couple of years ago and the !NetFetch one looked suspiciously short. Altering the password did the trick, and a test sending arrived successfully. So it was a self-inflicted problem after all. The moral, if there is one, is Always Check the Bleedin’ Obvious first…. |

The comment at work would be “Faulty User, replace and try again” :) |
