SystemDisc hangs on 16GB card

I’ve had a micro SD card fail, so I’m trying to create an image on a new 16GB Philips micro SD card. However, when I run up SystemDisc and select the card in its card reader, SystemDisc hangs, apparently for ever There’s no activity shown on the card reader. SystemDisc’s executable dates from 2014 June. Should it work OK? Have I got the most up to date version? If I click on the card’s icon, it comes up as FAT32FS::Fat32_0 and I can write to it, but I’ve made sure that it’s dismounted when I run SystemDisc, either by not mounting it after plugging the reader/writer in or by dismounting the drive multiple times. (Dunno whether that’s still necessary, but it used to be.) |

In 2017(?) was an update available witch fix some problems like this on my Titanium. |

Is the update available from somewhere? I tried the Piccolo Systems web site, but it’s still down for maintenance. |

Elesar is hosting it: link> |

Yes, but I already bought it, years ago – does this mean I have to buy it again in order to get the upgrade? Unless I’ve missed something, there doesn’t appear to be a way to get an upgrade to an already-bought product. I guess this wouldn’t be too surprising as Elesar probably wouldn’t have access to Piccolo’s customer accounts list. |

I have it direct from Ben as the answer to my error message. |

Uuups, sorry… at home I checked my old email. In 2017 was CloneDisc… SystemDisc was 07/2014, also after an error… In both mails Ben wrote something like… “When you bought your copy of …, I did promise free upgrades for |

Was this ever sorted? I’m trying to use my Copy of SystemDisc on a nice new UHS1 SanDisk 16GB MicroSD card. It just locks up indefinitely when I choose the card in the reader. I even tried reformatting the SD card as FileCore with HForm just in case the FAT32 driver was tripping it up No luck. |

I bought SystemDisc 1.04 last August: the !RunImage is dated 23 Apr 2016. It worked happily on a Sandisk Ultra card (16GB, UHS-I, A1 app rating) that I happened to have at the time. I haven’t tried any SanDisk cards since. |

I vaguely recall I may have had an issue like this a few months ago when I set up a 16gb card, I think at the time I just assumed it was my card reader and got around it by swapping the new sd card into the sd slot on the pi and formatting it there, running system disc (and hform) from a ram disc. I thought no more of it as it got the new card set up fine. This is the first I’ve noticed this thread… |

Hm. My Sandisk MicroSD card reader works with other things. I even used it with HForm on that SD card. Just now I used it to write Armbian to a 64GB Sandisk Ultra MicroSD card. |

The same here: does not work any more with USB readers (RISC OS 5.26). |

I could have been clearer… I assumed it was system disc not liking that card reader. It otherwise worked fine. |

I got the SD card that came from David a while back up and running. It’s RO v5.21 17 Feb 2015. |

Yes, the problem is only with new versions of SCSIFS / RISC OS. |

The Elesar site says the most recent version is 1.04. My version is 1.04, and it does not work on my recent RISC OS version. |

I’ve been running a few tests with SystemDisc 1.04. Results as follows: Pi 3B+, RISC OS 5.24: SystemDisc works (new 16GB SanDisk card accepted) So I am moved to conclude it’s something to do with 5.27, and it’s been that way since December at the latest. |

I posted this in the bug as well, but for completeness: SCSIFS 1.33 is fine but 1.34 freezes. Only one file changed between the two versions and it’s only a few lines. The code is all Greek to me though! |

What is the state of support for SystemDisc now? I bought SystemDisc years ago. Ben sent me an update since then. However, it still hangs when I try to get it to work on a 16GB SDHC card. The Piccolo Systems web site claims to be still down for maintenance – it’s been like that for ages. |

Ah, I see, Elesar. I’ve emailed Rob. |

I had to resort to RO 5.24 to get mine to work. Hung with 5.27. Perhaps I should follow suit! Advise when you get a response. |

That’s the problem with beta OS releases. The last stable version is 5.24 which ordinary users should be using. |

Using OS5.27 !SystemDisc did hang with a 32GB card in a USB card reader but it worked with the SD card in the Pi’s SDFS card slot. I get away with that here as the Pi SD card only has the firmware on it, the RISC OS image is on an SSD. |

5.26, surely?
Unfortunately R-Comp muddy the waters on that. I think Andrew knows my views on the problem with users having “stable” versions of 5.27 and so on… :-) |
