RISC OS 5 iamge archives?

Are old system disc images stored anywhere accessible to the public? I’m looking for CLib v5.66 upwards (incrementally till I find a suitable version), which I think came with RISC OS 5.18. I’m trying to install the ROOL DDE on a Risc PC, running 3.71 and the version of CLib (5.93) is causing problems when shutting down or restarting? I know it’s antique hardware :) I just want to test some things. |

Not that I’m aware of although I think you will find that the CLib from that time period was made as a softload version for people with older machines so the old Iyonix web pages archived on the Wayback machine may have it. ROOL being nice (if not a hoarder of old modules in binary lumps) they do have that big CVS setup where you can step backward into history, download the old code and compile the appropriate item. Mind you if you ask nicely and identify specific versions you might find someone has that version in a private archive. It’s tucked in the PlingSystem zip files in the !System.310.modules directory. |

Yes, that’s what I decided to do. I have pulled 5.66 & 5.68 to compile them but things have moved on and today’s DDE doesn’t quite match up with the source code from that time. I’m attempting to tweak things at the moment. Mind you if you ask nicely and identify specific versions you might find someone has that version in a private archive. It’s tucked in the PlingSystem zip files in the !System.310.modules directory. If anybody has got a copy of CLib 5.66 and/or 5.68 and could provide me with them, that would be great. |

I’m pretty sure that I have an OS 5.20-era PlingSystem at home, and I definitely have whichever CLib came with DDE 24 (which is around the same timeframe, or possibly a little earlier). I’ll take a look tonight and see which versions they are. Edit: It turns out that I only have 5.74. |

Edit: It turns out that I only have 5.74. Well that’s closer to the minimum of 5.66 than anything I’ve got. Many thanks, I’ll give it a try. |

Guess what I just found. 5.66. Going in the other direction (so you can try to track down the latest that works), I also have 5.83 and 5.87 available. |

Thanks for all the help but to no avail. I guess I’ll have to live with things as they are. The latest CLib that I have, that doesn’t cause the problem, is 5.53. The DDE needs 5.66. All versions, including the current source version that I built today, appear to ‘work’ but give an ‘application has gone wrong error’ when resetting the machine. Not a massive issue I guess, as long as there is nothing else wrong. |

Well the DDE works (as does gcc), it’s just the pain of the reset issue. I use my machines (including the Risc PCs) via a couple of KVMs, and the actual machines are a few metres away, which means I’ve got to get off my backside to switch this machine off and back on, rather than clicking restart. :-) |

I’m not sure “new” applies. Problems have existed with different versions of Clib being loaded after another item has already used a different version for many years. Given that Mike is using RO3.71 then, IIRC, the CLib is in the Boot structure on the disc anyway and substituting a new version for the system to use at boot time should do the job for both the original software and the DDE. Is this perhaps a case of a copy of CLib being loaded from a ROM in a podule? The DesignIT network cards had a copy that gets loaded way before everything else, hence the update available for those cards including a new CLib |

The DesignIT network cards had a copy that gets loaded way before everything else There is a CLib module in the network card but it’s not getting loaded. |

I thought the driver in the card used it, but it might be replaced by a different version in the !Boot when that runs |

I thought the driver in the card used it, but it might be replaced by a different version in the !Boot when that runs The DDE uses a modified !Run in !System and uses a copy from there. |
