Otter Browser

In another topic (Otter Browser and Co-op website) in this subforum I described a problem I had with just getting to the Login page, it’s manageable after that. It is odd that the problems come prior to the login, but not during login. Some said that it was due to SSL errors; but, in sny case, I have more to report that may be of use to others. Loging in to Skipton Building Society is now difficult with an Otter “Network error 4” page saying something about the page being inaccessible. Clicking on the “advanced” button on this page gives “Socket Operation Timed Out”. Clicking on the “Try again” button produces the login page. After that I managed to log in! For the Co-op bank website, I tried changing the User Agent, aka faking, from the rather mundane Default User Agent “Mozilla/5.0 {platform} {engineVersion) (application}” to Mask as Mozilla Firefox 54 (W*****s). Then the website worked and I could continue through to access my accounts. A coincidence or what? Is SSL a relevant issue or not? |

That suggests the issue is in that intermediate page that holds you at a blank while it figures out what browser you have so that they can impress you with whizzy features, but when it runs through all its options it finally fails through to the page they ought to have for everyone except handheld devices. I suspect the platform is a non-issue as a check on code in some of the pages in the sequence shows it trying to detect which specific version of IE you have and anything else falls in the “does not compute” category. I bet if you tell it IE10 or 11 it will remove the delay. |

I have tried faking as “Mask as Internet Explorer 11.0 (Windows)” chosen from the given options and it hasn’t made any difference. The value given for this choice is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0). |
