Unusual !Zap problem

I’m having an issue with !Zap Ultimate running on an ARMbook with RO 5.27, 19-Jan-20. The error is "Abort on data transfer at &000080C0”, but it only happens if I press Ctrl-F12 to start a task window, and Zap isn’t running. If I click on “continue” and then press Ctrl-F12 again, Zap responds correctly. There is no problem if Zap is already running. |

Is it Zap or is it this? https://www.riscosopen.org/forum/forums/11/topics/9455?page=4#posts-69255 |

Don’t know for sure, but the link suggests it would affect StrongEd as well—on my system only Zap gets affected in this way. Not StrongEd or Edit. Zap is registered as the task window handler because I use docktor as the application launcher on the ARMbook and (I assume) it filer_boots the apps it handles, in order to display their icons. Anyway, I like the line editing feature (wonders: can this be added to other editors handling task Windows?) and it’s also the only editor which appears to wrap the output correctly. |

The line editing features are provided by the LineEditor module, which can be loaded any time and works with all programs, including single tasking at the CLI and in BASIC. It should probably be a standard part of the OS. |

Perfect for keeping !Zap on hand for running, but it’s aggressive role hidden if wanting to use other editors. |

Ah, yes. I remember this problem now. It was some non 32 bit code in the TaskWindow helper, the thing that starts Zap running. Try the rick-07 release, fresh on !Store now. ;-) |

Problem fixed—many thanks. Just one thing I’d like to know—how to change the font used, permanently—well semi-permanently, anyway—from the default 8 × 16 bitmap to 12 × 24. I can change it with an editor window open, but the next time I open a window, even in the same mode, it’s the smaller size again. I’ve tried Misc→Set Defaults for mode then Misc→Save defaults, but this doesn’t give anything persistent, and all the font sizes on the iconbar Display menu are greyed out… |

David – I think there may be a “Save settings” from the iconbar menu as well? I’ll agree that getting settings to stick in Zap can be somewhat convoluted (it took me a lot of fiddling around to get HTML mode to default to word wrapping to the window width), but I am probably not the best person to ask. I suspect my cargo-cult rune throwing is a result of never bothering to read that part of the manual. ;-) |
