Hi,

I’ve got a SA110 RPC running RO5.28 – I’m trying to get the Aleph1 PC Card to work (worked fine with RO4.38) but !PCConfig reports “Application is not 32-bit compatible”. I’m running the 3.08 !PC package.

I read here: https://www.riscos.info/index.php/PC that I may need http://select.riscos.com/PCconfigPatch.zip but this file is no longer available at that URL or via the web archive. Does anyone have a link to it?

Any other suggestions on getting the PC Card to work on RO5.28?

Thanks,

Hi Dinan,
RISC OS 5 supports only 32 bit code, it doesn’t support the older (so called) “26 bit code”.

So, when you install RISC OS 5 on a RiscPC, you’ll lose the PC Card support, most of the Podules expansions support and some NIC cards support, because those all still have only “26 bit code” ROMs/Modules and support software.

The PC card application was open sourced (or the source released publicly), so it could be “32 bitted” if someone has the time and desire, but, AFAIK, no one did that yet.

If you’d like to use your RPC with the most of it’s fetures, probably it’s best to use it with RO 4.xx, but that is up to you. I personally use RO 5 only on modern devices. All my old Acorns run pre-RO 5 releases. This is just my personal choice.

Hope this helps!

The source also needs to be cleaned to remove the reliance on certain tools that are either no longer available, 32 bit compatible, or both.

Have you tried ‘Aemulor’ with RO 5? To run 26bit Progs.

Unlikely to be of use as IIRC1 parts of the code directly address hardware locations.

1 It has been a “few” years since I looked at that stuff.

Any chance that this is the patch you are looking for?

@Arron – yes thanks that is very helpful. Looks like I might be able to get PCPro3 running on RO6.20 – v3.08 runs fine on RO4.39. For 32bit only RO5.28 – I guess I’ll have to examine the source code :)

You’re welcome! That one took a fair bit to track down as well!
