RISC OS converter for AVCHD video files?

My otherwise excellent Sony A6000 camera saves its video in AVCHD format, which AFAICS KinoAmp cannot open – is there any RISC OS app that will play (or convert) this format? |

I’m not sure how “up to date” the RISC OS ports of ffmpeg or mplayer are. On Linux, both programs can. |

I beleive both are from 2012. |

I eventually went here: http://www.users.on.net/~belles/software/ffmpeg/#Contents and found what purports to be FFmpeg version 1.23 dated Jan 2013 (though when run, Menu-Info says it’s v. 1.01 dated 2008, so I’m not entirely sure about the ‘update’). But thanks anyway to Raik and Mike for the advice. |

I have send a question to Christopher because I have a AC3 problem with ffmpeg. |

Good news? ;-) Chris has send new ffmpeg and ffplay to try. Works with my pronlematic AC3-VOB and I have try some AVCHD files from here… ffmpeg can convert without problems, ffplay is very slow with it. I have try with my IGEPv5. |

@Raik: thanks for the update. Hopefully the new versions of ffmpeg/ffplay will become available in due course. In the meantime, my geekish* friend Gary can convert any AVCHD files for me if I need it :-) |

All the thanks only for Christopher! |

Did he time it himself? I ask because it is more usual for translations to take an existing one (say, English) and translate the text while leaving the timings alone. The timings themselves are often lifted from a Bluray release, if not done as an original work by a fan sub group. As for putting it into WALL-E, it is fairly simple to mux subs into an mkv file. I do this with the MP4s of Japanese drama programmes that I pick up from YouTube and the like. I did this last week with Akuryo Byoto (haunted hospital, TV broadcast friendly “horror”). Embedding subs into an mp4 is possible too, but some software mucks up reading them as mp4 isn’t as flexible as mkv. I’d say the hard part isn’t making the subs work. It’s translating them in the first place… |
