CloneDisc

Will folk please try using CloneDisc to write a ‘disc’ image file, for example, the image file RC15 for the Raspberry-Pi, to an SD card and let us all know the results; because I can’t get it to work. I have tried 4GB and 2GB SD cards with various formats, but always get the same warning (see here ), after pressing start, that the sector sizes are incompatible and the resulting ‘disc’ may be unreadable as indeed it was on the occasion that I did go ahead. |

I have used CloneDisc many times to create a disc image from an SD card, and to write images to SD cards… but I have never seen that error message. I think I wrote RC14 image to disc at one time, but not tried RC15. |

Martin, could you try writing the RC-15 disc image to an SD card? I would be interested in the results. I have tried again today with a variation in formatting the card to FAT32 (I used a camera); but still get the same warning message and the result is a card that shows only the bootloader firmware as if that was the whole card. In a Raspberry-Pi it doesn’t do anything, just a black screen. |

This has to be my last attempt to write the RC15 disc image to an SD card as I can’t waste any more time on it. Here is what I did. 1) Using CloneDisc (V1.03), wrote zeros to the 2GB SD card. 2) Formatted the card using HForm accepting all the default suggestions, including initialising the card and making it bootable. 3) Used CloneDisc to write the RC15 disc image to the SD card. Pictures of the windows, initially, after clicking start and at the end are here , here and here . Note that there was no opportunity to fix the “issue”. Also note that the information given in the first picture suggests, to me anyway, that the sector sizes are the same – do the division. 4) Mounting the resulting SD card shows a filer window with the bootloader firmware whether left or right clicking on the card icon, not the ‘HardDisc’ files. ‘Free’ showed: Size = 48MB, Free = 40MB and Used = 8MB. In that same menu was the item, partitions, which indicated that there is another partition, ADFS 1826MB, greyed out. See here . 5) Used SystemDisc for information only on the SD card see here . It says that the format is wrong for conversion to a system disc. 6) Inserted the card in a Raspberry-Pi and switched on. After a white Raspberry-Pi emblem, there was an error message from desktop: "Machine startup has not completed successfully: ‘File ’&.!BOOT’ not found’. The desktop that followed couldn’t be configured and the ‘HardDisc’ couldn’t be accessed, left or right clicking on the card icon gave only the bootloader firmware parttion as before. Either I am doing something wrong, or there is somethig wrong with the RC15 disc image downloaded from this website, or there is something wrong with CloneDisc. |

Not sure what the reason is. I have wrote the Image to a 2GB card without problems. |
