OBrowser in use

I’ve been using OBrowser daily on a Pi3 for over a month and it has proved a most worthwhile enhancement to Otter IMHO. You can now open a URL directly in Otter either by double-clicking on an email link or copying and pasting an address into the OBrowser dialogue box. Selecting ‘Start browser in “read only” mode for speed’ considerably speeds up page display and normal functionality is preserved (you can enter data in page fields etc), apart from Otter’s History, which is not updated, and Bookmarks, which can be opened but not added to*. The OBrowser icon resides on the icon bar while it is loaded and offers Menu options, like any normal RISC OS app. All in all, OBrowser has made Otter much more useable as a day to day RO browser, and I commend RISC OS Developments and R-Comp for making it available! |

Selecting ‘Start browser in “read only” mode for speed’ considerably speeds up page display How do you do this? I have looked at all the options and can’t find “read only” |

Run OBrowser. Clicking Menu over the iconbar icon will bring up 5 options, including ‘Choices…’. Selecting Choices reveals 6 further tickable options, of which ‘Start browser in “read only” mode for speed’ is the last. Obviously you need to be running OBrowser: AFAIK this option is not available in Otter on its own. |

Selecting Choices reveals 6 further tickable options, of which ‘Start browser in “read only” mode for speed’ is the last. Not with my version (0.9.12/1.02(15 June 2017). I only get five options. |

Thanks Raik; I’ll take a look tomorrow.
I’m running 0.9.91/1.03(24 October 2017), so that explains the discrepancy: presumably you can upgrade. |

Where do you actually get OBrowser from? I read about it a month or so ago and there was a comment about it being in Store, but it doesn’t seem to be there… |

It’s available to shareholders of RISC OS Developments, isn’t it? There were CDs at the London Show, but I can’t remember if they were there for existing shareholders, or could also be “bought” by funding the company’s work. |

I think they could be bought at the London show in October 2017 by non-shareholders, see here. The bounty for TCP/IP stack part 1 is now fully funded and just waiting for someone to take it up. Unlike crowd funding, there is no commitment that once its target is reached then something will actually happen. Presumably if noone takes it up at the calculated target, then the target could be increased. Equally there is nothing to prevent a budding programmer from submitting a higher bid than the target, although it is not clear whether such a bid would have to remain confidential or not. |

Link was sent to shareholders. Non-shareholders can still buy a copy from RCOMP (Andrew explained in comments on http://www.iconbar.com/forums/viewthread.php?threadid=12471&page=1#124222) |
