Off topic, however, not to point out the obvious, keyed discs can be circumvented by imaging the floppies before they’ve been keyed. I’m pretty sure someone wrote a bit of software to image protected floppies years ago!

Copies were where I did the experimental changes. The copies were only ever as backup library items.
I dislike piracy and when I was sent (unprompted) a cracked copy of Artworks I contacted people at CC.

Disc copying software was common on PeeCee’s and as I recall APDL hosted (hosts?) at least one full fledged raw sector copier for RISC OS.

Over the past few years I’ve had various requests to “hack” titles, which isn’t something I’m prepared to do. ADFFS was specifically designed so floppy images could be distributed unaltered, with disc protection intact.

I rather suspect that by the time you have enough understanding of the code to make it work with ADFFS you probably know exactly where to modify it so there is no protection, but that is your object.

The only games I’ve removed protection from is either manual based protection, which is just annoying when the manuals are distributed with the floppies, or where bugs in the protection cause issues on later machines such as some of the Eterna titles.

The former is as you say pretty pointless, it would be like having 10 locks on your front door with the keys on a string hung at the side. The only person it annoys or hinders is the legitimate user.
The latter case is, I think, covered by the euro-law that allows for bug fix alterations.
