New Style Guide

Ordered the new Style Guide on Monday, arrived this morning (Wednesday). Impressed so far, very nicely produced and nice that everything is in the Acorn traditional manual style. Hope they’re going to do more – they’ve said a couple of times that they’re using the Style Guide as a barometer to see how well printed books will sell. Hope they get enough support. https://www.riscosopen.org/content/sales/style-guide |

Doesn’t Amazon do e-book (Kindle) and publishing on demand from the same source? Could these be avenues to explore? |

There were three updated books announced at the Wakefield show: Acorn Assembler, Desktop Tools and Acorn C/C++. They haven’t appeared in the store yet though! Amazon entries for all three exist (1, 2, 3) but they aren’t orderable. |

I bought a copy at the Wakefield show and echo Gavin’s praise and enthusiasm – I generally prefer printed docs for regular reference, although they can’t match electronic versions for searchability. |

I had a copy early by post and I have been slowly working my way through it. I think it is a really excellent update and subtly done. My other copy is Issue 1 (1993), which is stapled and the images use System font. The new one is perfect-bound and the images use a desktop font. Was there a later Acorn issue with these changes? Otherwise, they are a huge improvement. |

A PDF of Issue 2 (1995) is included with the latest DDE and I’m pretty sure that it’s in Homerton. I’ve read through most of Issue 3, which I’ve had since late February (ordered it on day one and received it in NZ about a week later). Parts of it are word-for-word identical to Issue 2, and other parts are completely redone. I haven’t actually “needed” it yet and still haven’t released any software, but it’s good to feel like I’m supporting the OS and ROOL :) |

Is here any update on when or if these books will be available on Amazon? Or did I miss the opportunity to order there? |
