OwnCloud Desktop Client

Sparked by a recent discussion about DropBox here on the forum (see the thread about librogpio) I just tried logging into my OwnCloud server using NetSurf (on Linux, but I guess the experience will be similar in RISC OS). Needless to say it didn’t work – I could log in OK, but was presented with a blank page afterwards (hopefully it wasn’t just that all my files are gone!). My OwnCloud service is provided by openmailbox.org but I have no reason to suspect that the NetSurf experience would be any different with another provider… OwnCloud is supposed to be open source right? So how easy would it be to get a client working on RISC OS? Doesn’t have to be anything fancy really…I use a text-based interface on my OpenBSD laptop to sync with it currently. Granted I don’t use RISC OS very much – but perhaps I would use it a lot more if I could access all my files in one place? |

Of course Glenn could be talking about compiling/porting the open source code for OwnCloud |

Yes I was talking about compiling the Owncloud source…partly because I was unaware of a RISC OS based option. CloudFS does seem to be a good option but from what I have read it only supports pCloud currently. I wonder what options there would be to add Owncloud support in the future? I like Owncloud a lot because there is the option for having personal “clouds” on a LAN or home server…but then my wife would probably say that I’m gloomy enough as is and don’t need my own personal cloud! (oh, and a side note to say I find the term “cloud” in this context mildly irritating but am begrudgingly abiding by current conventions…) |
