This article signals that Raspberry Pi OS now switched to the Bullseye version of Debian and mentions that video and camera drivers have been rewritten for standard Linux APIs KMS and libcamera and thus opensourced. |

It has broken a few things. The Python camera management app I was writing to control a pi noir camera is no longer fit for purpose as it depends on the picamera python library module and a hardware driver that is not included in Bullseye. There is no python support for libcamera as yet. However, we have to move on. I plan to buy a new pi 4 for the camera project and until a libcamera python library comes along I am re-writing the camera managment app to generate camera commands and issue them via the python os module. It’s a pity there is no camera support for RISC OS but the new open source camera might make it a possibility. |
