Any possibility of Bush IBX settop (Lazarus) being released?

Hi there, I suspect I can guess the answer to this — but I’ll ask anyway! A majority of the software components for the Bush IBX series settops are (or seem to be) in the ROOL Git repository, mostly under the codename “Lazarus”. This includes the kernel, GPIO and NVRAM drivers, and some other bits vaguely scattered around. Going by the ModuleDB, it seems like the main part that’s missing is the keyboard driver (RCMMDriver — RC-MM is a Philips remote control protocol), the STB boot structures, utilities and applets, and the NC utilities (NCKeyboard, NCDialer, etc). Is there any reasonable prospect of some or all of these being made available at some point? I’d be happy to put some work in making them, well, work again. As it happens, I have an IBX100 on my desk and have been trying to get RO3.71 working on it, with some patches from the ROOL repositories. My goal is to get a desktop on the thing. Cheers |

You mean like this? I did it with a bit of copy-paste, see: https://heyrick.eu/assembler/resources/stbgadt.html But you’d need an iomega Zip drive for that method to work. I don’t imagine mine does, any more… but then, as you might be able to tell, the display (being aimed at TV devices) isn’t all that great. Like MODE 15 with loads more colours. |

I’ve tried to get that going, but ended up running into problems with errors on boot (data aborts and so on). The biggest problem I have at the moment is, I have the big keyboard which doesn’t have a working mouse pointer (just cursor keys). I don’t have the small remote. I’ve added PS/2 ports (keyboard and mouse) but only the keyboard works. |

Just for the record, in my storage of previous RISC OS computers, I have both the Bush set-top box (maybe both versions, from memory) and the integrated 14" colour television. I think that I have both the large and small remote controls as well. I am just seeking to keep up to date with what others may be doing with these pioneering devices. All equipment is in store at the moment but, in due course, will be brought back into use for experimental and educational purposes. Will be keen to keep this thread alive, but have nothing more to add at the moment. Just remembered that I also have working (was working) Iomega Zip drives in both Parallel and SCSI versions, with a supply of new and previously-used discs. |
