Three interesting topics for our march towards April

Posted by Steve Revill Mon, 09 Mar 2020 18:04:00 GMT

With the added productivity of our bonus leap day behind us, there is still a lot to look forward to in the next couple of months. For example:

  • Setting off towards our new RISC OS 5.28 stable release
  • Journeying to Wakefield, UK for the 25th WROCC show on 18th April
  • Reaching new heights of bounty goodness

Target: a new stable RISC OS release

At the recent Southwest Show we announced that preparations for the next ‘stable release’ of Open Source RISC OS 5.28 were underway.

We’re using the same stable release criteria as before, so if you’re a port maintainer, or just an interested spectator, you can keep an eye on the current readiness during the run up to the big release day.

If writing software isn’t your cup of tea (or coffee) then you can still help us with edits to the corresponding User Guide draft or use the contact form from the Reader’s Comments page at the back. We aim to keep our User Guide in sync with each stable release so all of the juicy new features and functionality have corresponding non-technical, user-facing documentation.

Five-figure totaliser

We’re delighted to note that the huge (by our standards) TCP/IP stack overhaul step 2 has pushed through the five-figure threshold. It is without doubt the biggest and most complex of all the tasks proposed, with only £4000 or so remaining before it reaches its goal.

Such a positive milestone shows that even these more ambitious tasks (we have a few more that got put to one side for fear of never reaching them!) can be met by the community. A note to any commercial sponsors: we can provide VAT receipts for donations too! :)
