Ticket #221 (Fixed)Tue Oct 20 19:18:35 UTC 2009

Spaces missing in !Help dictionary

Reported by: Martin Bazley (331) Severity: Minor
Part: RISC OS: Application Release:
Milestone: Status Fixed

Details by Martin Bazley (331):

[RO5.14]

You know in Message_HelpReply, where the application may use escape codes to indicate commonly used phrases, such as ‘\S’ for ‘Click SELECT to ’ and ’\T’ for ‘This is the ’? Well, somebody’s obviously edited the dictionary in a text editor which strips trailing spaces, resulting in messages like ‘This is theDisplay Manager icon.’. Just a heads-up to be more careful next time…

This was fixed in !Help 3.12 some 8 years ago, and it’s still fixed in the head revision 1.3
RiscOS/Sources/Apps/Help2/Resources/UK/Messages
so if the problem is occurring then we’re looking in the wrong place. Does the messages file cruncher strip trailing spaces? Isn’t there a hint to put in the file to stop this happening?
