The purpose of this call is to return the screen mode and ASCII code of the character at the text cursor position.
If cursor editing is in progress, it returns the character code returned by the character at the input cursors position. i.e. the character would be copied as input the next time copy is pressed).
The screen mode never has bit 7 set, even if it’s a shadow mode.
