LanManFS, the component used by !OmniClient to connect so SMB/CIFS shares cannot handle the type of authentication that is requested by default on newer Windows machines. (Sending encrypted passwords.)
It will always end passwords unencrypted.
There are several work arounds:
- Buy and install LanMan98
- Modify the Windows/SAMBA server to accept unencrypted passwords:
Windows:
1. Open “regedit.exe” on the Windows machine and change
‘HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkStation\Parameters\EnablePlainTextPassword’ from 0 to 1
2. Reboot
MAC OS or Linux:
1. Open the ‘etc\smbconf’ file and change “encrypt passwords = yes” to “encrypt passwords = no”
2. Reboot or Restart SAMBA.
