Official new site announcement

Posted by Andrew Hodgkinson Tue, 19 Dec 2006 18:16:00 GMT

RISC OS Open are pleased to announce that their new web site has now gone
live. This site replaces the ‘static’ site which went public back in
September and has lots of facilities which we hope the RISC OS community will
find useful and interesting.

We’ve been working on this site in our (primarily Andrew’s) spare time so
thanks to everyone for your support and patience, especially those who have
been beta testing the new site for us.

Here’s a quick outline of what you will find here:

  • News Pages
These will be the place to look for the latest significant developments from RISC OS Open Ltd, including progress reports on our work with Castle on their Shared Source RISC OS project.
  • Forum
This is a great place for members of the community to discuss all things RISC OS, with a specific focus on open source and community projects and the future of the OS. If there are any features which you’d just love to see someone develop or if there is software you’re thinking of porting/writing then the forum will be the place to discuss these things. If you are considering making changes to the Shared Source project sources then the forum is an ideal place to propose and discuss your ideas.
  • Source Code
The RISC OS Open site has two source repositories – one for CVS and one for Subversion. There will be a number of projects in these repositories, including source code to the components which make up much of our site. The Shared Source RISC OS project sources will live within the CVS repository.
  • Faults Database
If you have bugs which you’d like to see fixed or features which you want to request (specifically for the Shared Source RISC OS – when it’s released - or regarding the ROOL site), just enter a ticket into the faults database so the developers out there can be aware of what work people want doing.
  • Documentation Pages
This is where general documentation will live. Lots of things relating to the Shared Source RISC OS project will live here, e.g. documents about how to build components, where things live in the source repository, module APIs, etc. As soon we get hold of more documentation or write new stuff, we’ll publish it here for all to find.
  • Donations!
If you would like to contribute towards our work at RISC OS Open, there is a link to the donations page. All contributions welcome – they will all be put towards the cost of the Shared Source RISC OS project administration.

How to use the site

You can look around the site as much as you want but if you’d like to post or
submit something, you will need to create a simple account with us. The main
reason for this is to avoid reception of unwanted advertising (spam).

The process for creating an account is simple and secure; just click on the
“Log in” link at the top-right of the page and follow the instructions. We
will treat your registration information with respect – see our privacy
policy
for more details.
