mSATA with Element14 case

Hi All, I purchased one of the Element 14 cases and a 128Gb mSATA disc assembled it with a PI3 and RO5.24 on the SD card. On boot up I get a Harddisc4 icon and the SDFS 0 drive. If I then click the Harddisc4 icon a filer window opens with Fat32FS as the filing system. I was following the RiscOSBits page but he seems to skip the bit about how the disc is initialised. https://riscosbits.blog/2017/06/23/element14s-pi-desktop-and-risc-os/ My question:- Is this normal or do I need to do something with it to change it as I don’t seem to be able to boot from it, it just says ‘Waiting for drive to become ready’ in the boot up screen. Thanks for any help received. |

The OS can’t boot from it directly because DOSFS is limited to 4GB (and although Fat32FS can read the drive, Fat32FS isn’t in the ROM and instead gets loaded as part of the boot sequence). You’ll need to reformat it to FileCore format using HForm (which should be in $.Utilities.Caution, I think) |

Thanks for the reply, do I format it to S or M strange question when both file systems start with S (SCSI and SDFS)? |

S USB storage devices appear as SCSI devices to the OS, S = SCSI. M is for SDFS (M = “Memory card”, I guess) |

I have it working now on mSATA drive the only problem is if I shutdown with the on/off button only on re-start the drive is missing so fails to boot. If I shutdown and then remove the power lead it boots fine. Any ideas? Thanks |

I have one Element14 case and I have found a few quirks with it. Now, I only shut it down from the Switcher menu and then restart it with a mouse click or turn off the power. |
