Losing filetypes

Is it bit-rot or finger-fumble? I am suddenly finding lots of files (on FAT32FS media) which seem to have lost their filetype and become text files. Has anybody seen this before? |

I presume you’re using the latest version ? I’m not convinced FAT32FS does retain file types in a way that’s compatible with other OS, I’ve certainly seen files reset on USB drives when moving them between a PC and RISCOS. |

I believe Linux can mount ADFS but is read only, see this thread |

Last time I was poking around with building kernels there was an option to have R/W ADFS but it was marked as experimental. That being said I never had too much trouble with FAT32 memory sticks with RO. However I barely ever used them on another computer, and if I recall, never Windows. |

I’ve found zipping them is the safest way too. Even if the Zip file loses the type it’s no big deal. |
