Pi3 power usage / undervoltage icon

What changed between 02-Jul-18 and 01-Nov-18 in the OS, to increase power usage? Running the 02-Jul-18 build I never see the undervolt icon, but with the 01-Nov-18 build (and all newer builds) it appears. Unfortunately I don’t have any builds between those dates to track it down to a specific build date. I did report this previously when I first noticed it (but can’t find the thread), but its become more apparent today whilst testing different power supplies for the gamma issue. I’ve tried every PSU I have (powered hubs, official PSU’s and generic USB PSU’s) and every one shows an undervolt icon with newer builds regardless of PSU rating or the cables used. I’m not sure what rating the pi-top battery is, but that’s also triggering an undervoltage, which is a bit worrying! I’ve tried loading the CPU under Stretch and can’t get it to show an undervoltage, so the issue is specific to RISCOS. What are the other cores doing, are they powered down and idle? Does Portable only ramp up the single core being used, or all of them? |

There is this https://www.riscosopen.org/viewer/revisions/logs?ident=1543687139-722035.html but the dates don’t match. I have not seen the undervolt flash since. |

That certainly sounds like it could be the issue, in which case it also applies to the original Pi3 and possibly needs modifying. The previous change was 26th Oct when the code went in. Does anyone have builds before and after that date? Interestingly the Oct 26th change isn’t listed in the changelog |

v5.25-2018-10-15 and v5.27-3018-11-01 appear to be the relevant Pi releases. I have a jon at jaspp address I could mail them to. |

Should be sliding along the wires right now. |

They must have gone down the wrong wires as I’ve not received them. I already have the 18-11-01 file, so only require 18-10-15 to narrow it down a bit further. There was a branch merge into MAIN on 26th Oct, which introduced the issue, but the code now looks good, so I don’t understand why I’m still seeing the undervolt. Only three files changed in the merge: mixed/RiscOS/Sources/HAL/BCM2835/hdr/BCM2835 I suppose the other way the issue could occur is if it’s not detecting my Pi3 correctly. |

Thanks. The issue does not occur on the 15-Oct-18 build, so its somewhere between then and 01-Nov-18. ie Its looking very likely that it’s the branch merge that introduced the problem. I’d need the 25-Oct-18 and 27-Oct-18 builds to be certain. Still doesn’t explain why the Appease Thor fix doesn’t actually fix it! |

Ignore everything I’ve said. I’ve just tested the 16-01-19 build and the issue doesn’t occur. I’ve been testing builds from Jeffrey over the past week, which would appear to be based on code prior to the Appease Thor fix. Doh! I’m sure I tested the 29-12-18 build, but must have messed up when copying the ROM over. |

Most strange, the obvious at jaspp org uk – I’ve just sent a test mail and the session logs say it was taken by the server. No bounce message from the previous. Hey, ho, you’re sorted anyway. |

Got your test message okay…very strange. Thanks anyway, much appreciated. |
