Makoto and Megumi

Hi, I’ve just been sent a copy of two applications Makoto and Megumi (what’s the difference? the code files look almost the same to me) which I think is/are some sort of image viewer for obscure (Japanese) image formats, along with the usual PNG, GIF, JPEG… I don’t really have the time to wade through all of that to 32-bit it – so I was wondering if the job had already been done by somebody. The programs appear to be contain numerous files of squeezed BASIC with large amounts of rather ugly inline assembler (the result of the code squeezing), not to mention the !Register file which seems to be intended to build a module to push the image convertors into ResourceFS on the fly (!). But this… This is something I’ve never seen before: WTactualF? |

Crunched assembler. Fancy! Each of those The bits which haven’t been converted to string form, are most likely either because they contain special characters which can’t be (efficiently) included in the string, or because they reference variables (branch instructions, #b%, etc.) |

What do you actually use Megumi for? I know it loads pictures in various odd formats, but I’ve never come across the sorts of files it deals with… |

I not really use it. I “find” it as I searched a good image displaying program. Maybe other people find it useful… |

I use Megumi to slide through whole directories of pictures. Seems Megumivis the only Jpeg-viewer, which supports to view the next picture with a mouseclick. And second plus: it is one of the fastest Jpec viever. To Raik: yes, i would realy like to get a working Megumi. it’s still my most preferred picture viewer As Zap is still my most preferred editor. Maybe i’ m just old :-) |

SwiftJPEG (Hipposoft) has a lot to commend it on RISC OS – URL |

Are you sure? I have just tried SwiftJPEG, loaded a directory of jpegs, and Right arrow goes to the next image in turn. |

Ah – I have Button Bar installed which gives me a small click-on tools pane with the facility to advance 1 or 10 images, or go back in the same way. All with a single click. Happy to let you have a copy! What I was really getting at was that SwiftJPEG has highly optimised JPEG display routines – optimised for RISC OS – and I doubt if a port of a program for another OS could match this. Also, of course, I was only talking about JPEGs. |

Will sort the stuff on my NAS next view days and upload a working copy of Megumi…
Maybe PrivateEye is what you need. RTFM. “PAGE DOWN will move the viewer onto the next file in the directory. PAGE UP moves to the previous file.” |
