HForm failed: Disc not understood

I am trying to create a Pi SD on a 16g micro sd card. The card started out pre-formatted FAT-32 and was working on an ARMX6. SystemDisc said it was not suitable and should be formatted using HForm. I have done this but was not sure how to respond to the prompt to change the hard disc shape parameters. The SD now no longer works. The User Guide says Hform will prompt with valid parameters, but this did not appear to happen. Here is the HForm run listing: FILECORE HARD DISC FORMATTER 2.72 (28-Feb-16) |

From memory: Accept the defaults and format the disk; set long file names.
Try F(ormat) |

From memory: Accept the defaults and format the disk; set long file names. Yes I did that Format or just initialise the drive (F/I) ? I Did that the first time – the above log is from the second go at formatting. Try F(ormat) |

That geometry looks a bit optimistic. I wonder if the card reader is rounding up when translating it back to SCSI land? Try subtracting a few cylinders, eg. 42780 cylinders, 21 heads, 35 sectors/track. Edit: the nearest card I have to hand is 15087MB and C=42038 H=21 S=35 formats fine on my Titanium, try that. |

But why doesn’t HForm offer LBA? CHS is not natural for an SD card. |

Also John could try the latest Hform v 2.74 from the beat HardDisc image |

It is using LBA – it’s just not mentioning it. I’m not sure how the CHS values affect things in this situation (other than determining the capacity to format to) |

Also John could try the latest Hform v 2.74 from the beat HardDisc image Ok tried that, but sadly with the same result. Ie after formatting HForm does not recognise what it has done -
The card itself appears to be ok as I have is now reformatted it with !FAT32Form and can write to it again. Time to try another approach perhaps. |

I got same error when I was setting up 16Gb card for Pi using !HForm version 2.72. I was able to format the card by using older version of the !HForm. The version that work for me was 2.66 |

Thanks for that. It reduces the paranoia to know I am not alone. |

Edit: the nearest card I have to hand is 15087MB and C=42038 H=21 S=35 formats fine on my Titanium, try that. I will try it, but my SD reader seems to have stopped working – ie drive does not appear when I plug in. |
