Comments on RC1 for 5.30

Some initial comments on the new HardDisc4 rc1 for 5.30… 1. The download seems to identify as 5.31, not 5.30 as I expected. Is this deliberate? 2. Anyone running the ROD stack should remember to uninstall it before trying to run InSituBootUpdate. 3. After running InSituBootUpdate, my Titanium failed to boot correctly. This was because RMFind seems to have been moved from !Internet.bin to !Internet.utils, causing !Boot.Choices.Internet.Startup to fail on !Internet.bin is in Run$Path, utils is not, so as a temporary fix I have copied RMfind back to bin, and that seems to have resolved my boot problems. Has anyone else seen this, or is this just me? [Edit] The lines in Internet.Startup using RMFind are generated by InetSetup v0.62 (17 Dec 2022) so looks like a bug to me! |

Sometimes it help to know the answer beforehand! On the RPi400 I started by uninstalling the ROD Inet stack, to test one thing at a time and get rid of all those unplugs. The OS5.30(1?) HardDisc4 candidate was installed on a USB pen with an OS5.29 ROM on an SDcard. It booted up just fine, Internet was setup but ShareFS was not present with ShareFS and Freeway modules dormant. No error message was seen!! IF "<Inet$Path>" = "" THEN Set Run$Path <Run$Path>,<Obey$Dir>.bin.,<Obey$Dir>.utils. |

An “‘RMFind’ not found” error is issued, but the boot messages are cleared immediately after so it is never seen. |

I would also expect anyone running Pinboard 2 to also need to remove it as well? |

@djp: My @Doug: I did not remove Pinboard2 … and all seems well. I did however remove the ROD Stack! |

It doesn’t, that is the bug, I added it.

ROOL most likely doesn’t want a non-stable version to identify itself as 5.30. I think normally this type of release would identify itself as 5.29, but at a guess ROOL probably wants to test the “RO530Hook” directory and therefore needs a 5.3x version number. |

Oops, beware of jumping to conclusions. RC1/5/31/zip has Recent OS5.29 DiscDev builds also have The up to date OS5.29 Boot on this Titanium actually has Fascinating. I was wondering how come RC1 and the current DiscDev diverged in the location of |

I presume it is important to test RC1 with the ROD stack and not just with the ROOL stack. We don’t want to find an error in the HD4 component after it is released. |

Was RMFind supposed to be removed from !internet.utils in today’s (19 Jan) nightly HD4? |

I think RMFind was moved to the main Library … but I am not in a position to check. |

It was but there’s still a copy in !Internet.utils. |

I have tested it on a CM4 on a Waveshare IO board running RISC OS 5.28 and it seems to run OK. I am using the ROD internet stack 7.03. It does show the removable SD card as drive 4 though which is an odd choice for default as eMMc has not yet been ported to the CM4 (the ROM is on the SD card but the boot filesystem is SCSI). Hopefully RISC OS 5.30 will get this right (and perhaps talk to the eMMc on my other CM4 board). It cannot see the NVMD drive but there isn’t an NVMD driver for RISC OS yet (so this drive is used for the dual boot Linux). I have also noticed that the icon ‘Discs’ is not present when a network cable is plugged in – this seems to be a known bug so are we expecting an RC2? However LanMan98 2.05 can connect to my NAS OK so the network is working. Also just noticed eMMc on the CM4 might now work (Back out part-implemented DDR support for eMMC devices) so will test this on Monday once it makes it to development roms. |

Excellent news! The daily rom now accesses the eMMc on the CM4 (but shows it as removable) but also discriminates when it sees an SD card on a CM4 Lite (but shows it as fixed). Will test the RC1 HD4 now on the CM4 (non-Lite). |

Running RC2 on my panda no issues seen yet, hope this is the right thread to cover it |
