RiscPC, !PC and the serial

@Ronald May
I am developing a TAP (debug processor) for an FPGA project, my protocol does not use any “breaks” or handshakes, it moves 512Kbyte of data at ~1Mbit/sec without any troubles: yes, with modern protocols and equipments it’s really possible =D I am a bit buy with other troubles at the moment, but I will try to modify the serial cable between the RiscPC and the EVS board. mmm, a “dual serial podule” could, eventually work without any need to modify the wiring: is it correct ? |

I’m most definitely no authority, but I am wondering whether your problems are related to a very long standing bug which appears to pre-date RO5. It’s now fixed in RO5. For a user of the PC card this of about as much use as a chocolate fireguard since the PCPro3 software isn’t 32 bit and therefore doesn’t work with RO5. Whether the built DeviceFS module is usable under RO4 is an interesting question. |

Seems to be OK. Nothing went base-over-apex yet. All things considered the difference should be very minor so it should be fine. Maybe it should be added to the PlingSystem zip file (“System Resources”) for loading on pre-RO5 machines? |

It sounds interesting because I have troubles with the Keyboard and with the serial line how could I try the fixed DeviceFS ? I need detailed instructions, what do I have to download, and what i have to put where in the !boot folder. |

My quick experiment was done by using Verma to extract a copy of the module from the current IOMD ROM running on a copy of RPCEmu as the quickest method (couldn’t be bothered compiling the standalone module from source) and then simply double-clicking on it to load it. That’s probably the worst case load of any module – loading it over something that may be in use, and it didn’t cause a crash. |
