PDriverDP 4.54 and !Printers 1.73 problems

I upgrade to !Printers 1.73 and then merged updates to it from the ROOL site, these being the ones that mean Netsurf can print, which include PDriverDP 4.54. I was very pleased that Netsurf does indeed print, this will be most useful.
However I started to receive errors/ crashes when printing from other applications, until I was unfortunately forced to revert all back to !Printers 1.72.
Reading other mailing lists (Iyonix Support and David Pilling Users’), others have experienced similar problems.
I could not get !Fireworkz32 to print at all, and the machine had to be restarted to recover.
One person reported that Ovation Pro gave a type 5 error and a machine restart when trying to print anything with Selwyn top bit set characters in it.
