Ticket #494 (Open)Wed Jul 22 21:02:59 UTC 2020

Pi Zero video detects the TV, PI 3 doesn't.

Reported by: Marc Draco (8513) Severity: Minor
Part: Release:
Milestone: Status Open

Details by Marc Draco (8513):

Absolutely not a killer problem, but I thought it was an odd one.

The Pi Zero correctly offers resolutions up to 1920×1080 but the Pi3 only offers resolutions up to 1280×720.

Not sure if I can add anything of use, but if I can help, by all means do ask.

Can you post the contents of config.txt and cmdline.txt (if any) for both machines? There are a few settings in there which can influence the video driver’s behaviour.

For what it’s worth, I tried my TV (a Sanyo CE32LD08) on both a Pi 3B and a Pi Zero using RC16 as the starting point.
In both cases the list of available modes in Display Manager was the same, up to and including 1920×1080. The default ‘Native’ mode was 640×480 in 256 colours, likely due to dodgy EDID contents – I was able to select higher modes manually.

Aside: it’s quite an old TV now I think there are some bogus 75Hz timings in the EDID which the TV isn’t supposed to support.
