Ticket #245 (WontFix)Sun May 30 22:10:25 UTC 2010

Instal_CC on ARMv7 (local drive not CDFS)

Reported by: Trevor Johnson (329) Severity: Normal
Part: RISC OS: C/C++ toolchain Release:
Milestone: Status WontFix

Details by Trevor Johnson (329):

Note, running from memory stick via SCSIFS, not direct from CD-ROM drive.

When running on ARMv7 (rev.C4 BeagleBoard), after dragging target directory and clicking on ‘Next’ then ‘Install’ receive message “Now Installing, Please Wait…..” but underneath is “Internal error: abort in data transfer at &20398B70”. On rebooting and running again, address is &20397710. Next reboot: &20397890.

On same hardware, running from a reboot with alignment exceptions off, beneath install message is “Error reading data”. Note – this may be because I’m not running direct from the CD-ROM drive but I have no means of checking this with a physical drive for the moment.

  • Part changed from RISC OS: Application to RISC OS: C/C++ toolchain

Initially filed under

  • RISC OS: Application
because it’s not part of the toolchain itself.

Recategorised now because it seems more appropriate to lump it with the C/C++ toolchain things.

For the record, I’ve now tried this via CDFS using CDFaker. (Not that it’s any help in solving the problem.)

I’m considering changing the severity to Major, but will sleep on it for a week or so in case what seems reasonable now later seems unreasonable.

I know that you don’t have the source code. However, without a working ARMv7 installer, developers are blocked unless they have access to an alternative RISC OS machnine. Is a new installer application something which you’d consider requesting volunteers to work on from scratch (presumably under an NDA)?

Modified by Steve Revill (20) Fri, February 18 2011 - 12:14:26 GMT

This is possibly the result of the version of SparkFS in the installer not being ARMv7 safe. We are not yet at the point where we are happy to certify that the tools work on any ARMv7 platform, because there isn’t one that isn’t in beta. However, I’ve done an update to the DDE 20 tools release which may address the problem. Let me know if you’re interested and I can give you a suitable download link.

  • Status changed from Open to WontFix

DDE24 removes the need for the installer, hence closing this ticket.
