Greatest hits album RC15 out now

Posted by Steve Revill Fri, 21 Apr 2017 08:16:00 GMT

It’s been long anticipated after the record success of our previous hit (RC14) in February 2015, but the wait is over.

What’s changed

Right up to date support for the latest ARMv8 in the main OS ROM, bundled with hundreds of fixes and improvements to the OS. The previous release was based on RISC OS 5.21 which was current at the time.

There are new and updated applications on the disc too, as well significant improvements completed thanks to donations in the form of updated JPEG support, EDID monitor detection and the first few pieces of USB work.

Models supported

The Raspberry Pi Foundation have been busy creating new models at an astonishing rate, so the list of different Pi boards supported has grown too. RC15 now supports:

  • Pi Zero (new)
  • Pi 1 models A, A+, B, B+
  • Pi 2 with BCM2836 processor
  • Pi 2 with BCM2837 processor (new)
  • Pi 3 (new)
  • Compute Module
  • Compute Module 3 (new)

Thanks to Chris Hall for helping testing all the variants alongside ROOL. That’s a pretty epic list, even more than the 6 different machine types that the Risc PC and ARM7500 ROMs do.

Availability

We’ll be selling this new version pre-pressed onto ROOL branded discs for £10 + VAT at the Wakefield show this weekend on stand 15. If you can’t make it to the show they can also be ordered by post from our store instead.

If you have your own recording equipment at home, there’s a raw disc image to download. Please consider a donation of at least £5 to cover ROOL’s costs or, even better, a recurring donation.

Very nice! Many thanks for this!

Only one small problem: Rebooting my Raspberry Pi 1 Model B produces an error dialog with “Memory Can Not Be Moved”, followed by a complete freeze (can’t move the mouse pointer, can’t click cancel). This happens after a fresh installation. Any idea why this is?

Other than that… a thousand thanks for the update!

Hi Stephan. Have you tried interrupting the boot sequence and *Configuring the RMASize and/or SystemSize to be larger? This might be something that’s triggered by an external FAT drive as one stab in the dark… perhaps disconnecting that first will help. :)

Some background: this was tested and worked fine on our 256MB Model B.

Hi Steve, thanks for your help. It’s actually a 512K model… but no, increasing RMASize/SystemSize didn’t help. Other than a mouse and a keyboard there’s nothing attached to the Pi in question, The weird thing is, this it happens only after the click on “Restart”; don’t know what’s still happening after that…

If you search for the error Memory Cannot Be Moved in these forums you will find previous reports and suggestions. Sorry cannot be more precise but not at home!

@Martin: Thank you. It turns out, I’m getting the error because I have an RTC widget installed in my Pi…
